Could this be New York's most exciting hotel opening this year?

So there are no prizes for guessing that the team at Colonial are obsessed with vintage aviation and the glamour days of air travel. We are always on the look out for exciting new destinations and openings and BOY did we just find one.

So take an abandoned airport terminal and turn it into a hotel. No brainer? Well, it's not just ANY old airport terminal. It's the old TWA Terminal, designed by acclaimed architect Eero Saarinen and opened in 1962.

The building has been reinvented by New York–based design firms Lubrano Ciavarra, INC., Beyer Blinder Belle, and Stonehill Taylor.

The attention to detail is PHENOMENAL. Even the background music has been carefully curated and includes tracks by Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Dusty Springfield and Dean Martin. Expect to find airline beverage trollies dotted around with snacks and drinks.

To get to your bedroom, you travel down the iconic "tubes" made famous in the movie, "Catch me if you Can". Rooms feature splashes of TWA red, some with views of the aprons and taxi ways and even the guest amenties in the bathrooms are TWA.

True aviation geeks can visit the TWA Museum. You'll find vintage uniforms, classic furniture from the time period the terminal opened, TWA travel posters and luggage tags.

If thats not even, there are extensive meeting and events spaces as well as a fitness centre with spin classes and yoga, you'll find a multitude of bars and six restaurants including the recreated "Ambassadors Club" inspired by TWA's former First Class Lounges as the Lisbon Cafe. You'll also find a cocktail lounge housed within a Lockheed Constellation L-1649A airplane.

The hotel opens on the 15th May 2019 with room rates starting from $249.00 per room per night.
